In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Alam tara kaifa fa'ala rabbuka bi ashaabil feel

Have you not considered, [O Muhammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?

Alam yaj'al kai dahum fee tad leel

Did He not make their plan into misguidance?

Wa arsala 'alaihim tairan abaabeel

And He sent against them birds in flocks,

Tar meehim bi hi jaaratim min sij jeel

Striking them with stones of hard clay,

Faja 'alahum ka'asfim m'akool

And He made them like eaten straw.

About This Surah

Al-Fil (The Elephant) is a Meccan surah of 5 verses referring to a historical event around the year of the Prophet's birth (approximately 570 CE), when an Abyssinian army with war elephants attempted to destroy the Kaaba in Mecca. God repelled them by sending flocks of birds that pelted them with stones, making them like eaten straw.
